This talk helps introduce film noir and prime film fans for deeper dives on the topic. Starting with the influences and development of the phenomenon, attendees can discover where film noir originated. The evolution of film noir is discussed, along with the major cultural and geopolitical events that intersected with the classic era. Common elements and essential films are reviewed, to help showcase what can be found within the dark world of film noir. An interactive Q&A session is always last so attendees can discuss their favorite films and find out more!

Film Historian Dan McQueen is a passionate teacher and student of film history. He is fascinated by the combination of technology, art, and industry, that fueled the world-wide craze for motion pictures in the 20th century.

His research focuses largely on the classic era of film noir that ran roughly from the early 1940s to the late 1950s. He speaks throughout northern New England on the topic and also hosts the Shadows of Noir podcast. Dan’s goal in all of this is to bring people together and help grow the world of film.
