Memoir Meet-Ups In-Person

We'll be sharing our writing in small groups, helping each other grow in our craft, with kindness rather than judgment. Prompts provided, but it is also fine to work on your own projects with your own agenda. Sign up below for reminders, an emailed prompt before each session, and bonus memoir-related content, but no signing up is required to attend and the prompts are optional. Sessions are first and third Fridays, attend when you like or come to them all! Optional topic: How did you get your name?

Memoirs, unlike autobiographies which are based on research, come from the writer's memory. What you remember is your "true" story, even though others may remember events differently than you do. Memoirs strive for emotional truth more than historical truth and are written in a more personal and intimate voice. These are the stories that have given shape and meaning to your life.

This program offers a supportive group setting in which you are invited to write short personal stories in response to suggested writing prompts. Stories are shared in the group session, not to be critiqued, but to be affirmed and celebrated. Over time as your collection of such stories grows, they will begin to take shape as a lively record of your life's journey.
